A 39-year-old taxi driver is now counting his losses after he was robbed by two men who had hired him to take them to La Parfaite Harmonie, West Bank Demerara (WCD).
Reports are that the incident occurred at about 21:10h on Tuesday in the vicinity of Policeman Corner, La Parfaite Harmonie, WBD.
The taxi driver, of Anna Catherina, WCD, told Police that he would usually operate his Toyota Spacio, PNN 2814, at New Road, Vreed-en-Hoop. He related that he picked up two masked men opposite the West Demerara Regional Hospital, and they asked to be taken to La Parfaite Harmonie. According to the Police, when the taxi driver reached the destination, one of the men directed him to stop near a heap of sand, and the suspect in the front seat of the car exited. The other suspect, who was in the back seat of the car, put his neck in a vice grip and placed a gun to his neck. The driver was ordered to remain quiet while the other suspect who had exited the car pointed another gun at him and searched him for valuables.
Narine was robbed of his Toyota Spacio car that cost just over $1.4M, along with one gold wedding band valued $75,000, his Samsung Galaxy cellular phone valued $86,000 and $10,000 in cash. He was left stranded, but raised and alarm and subsequently reported the matter to the Police. An investigation has been launched. (G9)
