Meanwhile, troops serving at the Third Infantry Battalion at their Base at New Amsterdam kicked off their Christmas season with a splendid Soldiers’ Day.
On hand to celebrate the festive season with the soldiers were Colonel General Staff, Colonel Julius Skeete, other officers of the GDF, and senior officers of the Guyana Police Force and the Guyana Prison Service. Also present were special invitees from the Region Six Regional Democratic Council.
Colonel Skeete thanked the soldiers for their service and urged them to continue to serve with a high level of professionalism. “We value your service and as a collective, we set aside this day to thank you. The Force also wishes your families a happy and safe festive season,” he said.
He also reminded them to uphold the laws of Guyana and follow keenly the values and standards of the GDF whether in or out of uniform. “The conduct of officers and ranks ought to be of a high professional standard at all times. Steer clear of the use of drugs and the over-indulgence of alcohol. I charge you to also take care of the Force’s assets, kit, and equipment. On behalf of the COS, we wish you a happy holiday!”
