Guyanese all-rounder Antonnel Atwell opened his Trinidad and Tobago 2017 professional campaign in grand fashion as he registered a century to give his team, Munroe Road, first innings advantage against Santa Cruz in their drawn match.
The right-handed batsman scored 110 out of his team’s total of 348 all out, while receiving support from Teshawn Castro, who hit 55 and former international player Derwin Christian with 25.
Darryl Williams grabbed five wickets for Santa Cruz, while Kenneth Hazel took three. Castro continued his good form in the Sunday League 50-over match, hitting a century to give Munroe Road an easy win.
In their turn at the crease, Santa Cruz were dismissed for 138 with six overs remaining on the second day. The follow-on was enforced and they were 20 without loss. However, rain spoiled the last day of the match.
Atwell’s next assignment with Munroe Road begins on March 4 against Couva Sports as competition in the North-Central District intensifies.
Couva Sports and Munroe Road Sports both piled scores of over 300 on the first day of their respective second round North-Central Championship Division Three-day League matches, which bowled over the weekend.
In Couva’s previous game, David Livinston recorded 133 as his team reached 307 all out against Queen’s Park Cricket Club III on the first day. Shavion Simpson and Ronald Goodridge also chipped in with 46 and 36 not out, respectively.
Jason Batson was the best bowler for the opposition with four wickets.
