Auditions for Carifesta 13 begin on Sunday at the Umana Yana

As Guyana works to compile a 60-strong contingent for the upcoming Carifesta XIII slated for August 17-27 in Barbados, the stage is now set for the commencement of auditions.
On Sunday, all persons satisfying the criteria to be possibly included in the Guyana contingent with specific focus on the Performing Arts section are expected to attend the auditions at the Umana Yana, Georgetown, starting at 14:00h.
The three categories include Drama, Music and Dance and are expected to portray the local theme of ‘Guyana an Emerging Green State.’ There will not be any individual auditions, as the auditions are catering for groups.
The performing arts criteria for selection are as follows:
Drama: To select the best new Guyanese play from the National Drama Festival 2016. This has to be in keeping with the themes that reflect the identity, interests and preoccupations of the nation of Guyana.
Cast members of the play should include persons who can perform in other areas/genres: story-telling; spoken word and include persons who represent the age group category – youth.
Members should also have the ability to conduct workshops and perform individually in the different genres of drama such as spoken word.
Music:    These will include the winners of the minor categories in the National Steelband Competition at Mashramani 2017. Members of this group should possess the ability to interpret a musical score.
Dance:    A company that can best represent Guyana on an international stage. The group must have at least three different dance styles and must be at least five years in existence, with the ability to conduct workshops.
