An Easter weekend full of action saw the Lusignan Golf Course (LGC) host two tournaments. On Saturday, the action kicked off with the Global Auto Spares Easter tournament, which was won by Clifford Reis (67/25) (Best Net Overall). While Sunday saw the opening of the Romel & Robin 9-hole Golf tourney, this tournament was played in 2 Flights, handicaps 0- 7, and 8-14, with prizes awarded for the best first three net scores in each category.
In the 0-7 category winners were: Avinash Persaud – nine-time Guyana Open Male Champion – (30/1) – 1st; Vishal Dhanai (31/6) – 2nd; and “Skinny” Deosarran (33/4) – 3rd. In hot pursuit of the winners’ row were “Naro” Jetendra Ganpat (34/5) and Mike Gayadin (34/7). In the 8-14 category, winners were: Aasrodeen Shaw (33/8) – 1st; Kurt of ExxonMobil (33/14) – 2nd; and Mahindranauth Tewari (34/9) – 3rd. Close competition in this category was offered from Daniel Bates (35/14); Imtiaz Subhan (35/11); Rabindranauth Persaud (36/9); Videsh Persaud (36/14), and Roberto Mohan (36/14). A special prize went to the Best Female Golfer of the day – Kerry of ExxonMobil, while Avinash won the prize for the Longest Drive.
Many of the first-time visitors to the course were spellbound by the beauty, serenity and great lawns of the golf course with lots of trees, and ponds.
Nine-time Guyana Open Women’s Champion, Christine Sukhram, was on hand to teach newcomers how to putt in a prize-winning raffle giveaway. Club President Aleem Hussain Hussain expressed his gratitude to the team of Romel & Robin with all the staff who worked tirelessly to make this weekend enjoyable for so many families. He added, “We expect that several new members will come out [of] this Easter weekend’s activity and based on the reaction of the guests, we feel that the LGC has a great future, both in the game of golf and as a fun family destination.”
On Saturday, April 27, Assuria Insurance Group of Companies will host its inaugural tournament as the LGC kicks off the second half of its season, with Banks DIH; Torginol Paints; El Dorado (DDL); Kissoons; Macorp and AMCHAM all scheduled to host major events between now and June 15.
