Azeez wants to make CGI

By Timothy Jaikarran

Azim Azeez has always been a lover of cricket. At a very tender age, he began playing cricket in the backyard of the Grove Masjid. With the passage of time, he began to emulate Shahid Afridi, having always been obsessed with Afridi’s aggressive style of batting and attacking leg-spin bowling.

Azim Azeez

Guyana Times Sport recently caught up with Azzez and asked what made him want to play cricket. Azeez responded that he has always been a lover of the sport, though he couldn’t explain why his passion was so great.
He said he always knew in his heart that he was destined to accomplish great feats in the sport, so he pursued his dreams. As he progressed in life, he would always describe himself as a player who can do a bit of batting and bowling. Thus, in 2010, he was introduced by Mr Baksh from the Third Class Cricket Club to Mr Shawn Messiah of Transport Sports Club (TSC), where he started his long tenure.
The 29-year-old off-spinner said one of the things he enjoys doing is attacking the ball when at the crease. Because of this, he has thus far scored five hundreds batting for TSC, with 115 being his highest score.
Since being with TSC, Azim has accomplished many feats, such as the time he batted at number eight, in August, 2017, in a second division two- day match and got a miraculous hundred holding the innings of the team together.
He went on to take his best bowling figures of 8-26 against the University of Guyana cricket team. In his most recent achievement in the New Building Society (NBS) 40-Overs second division tournament, Azeez made and attacking 33 not-out in an innings filled with two scintillating sixes and three fours. And he also bagged 4-3.
With his consistent performances, Azeez hopes that he will catch the eyes of the selectors, and one day be selected for Cricket Guyana Inc (CGI) and from there on make the national side.
