Bacchus Bulls, Cotton Field Strikers and Reliance Hustlers claim semifinal spots
Central Essequibo T20 competition…
In the penultimate round of the Central Essequibo T20 Cricket competition, action continued during the course of the week at the Imam Bacchus Ground at Affiance, as hosts Bacchus Bulls defeated Reliance Hustlers by 23 runs and Cotton Filed Strikers secured a 4- wicket win over Ravens.
Parmesh Parsotam led the bulls with a well played 55
Asked to take first strike, Bacchus Bulls posted 152 all out in their allotted 20 overs. Former national Under-19 batsman Parmesh Parsotam spanked 55 (2×6,5×4) to record his fourth consecutive half-century, while Navindra Persaud chipped in with 35 (3x4s). Bowling for Reliance, off-spinner Pavindra Persaud claimed 2-26.
In reply, Reliance Hustlers were restricted to 129 for 8 in their allotted overs. Opener Mark Austin’s 32 (5x4s) and Pavindra Persaud’s 30 (2x4s and 2x6s) were not enough to stop medium Pacer Ganesh Mangal from bagging 4-14 from his 4 overs.
In the second game played at the same venue, Cotton Field Strikers secured a tense 4-wicket victory against Ravens. Asked to bat first, Ravens amassed a challenging 144-6 from overs reduced to 17 due to time. Ganesh Boodram scored 34 (4x4s and 2x6s), Glendon Smith scored 27 (5x4s), and Elroy Stephney chipped in with an unbeaten 25.
Ganesh Mangal bagged 4-14 to guide the Bulls to victory
In their turn at the crease, Boomesh Ramdahin, whose superb 52 contained 6x4s and 2×6, received admirable support from Rajiv Ramkissoon, who scored 27 (3x4s), and Kevin Persaud, who scored 22 (4x4s), as Cotton Field chased the target all the way to the final over, in which they needed 11 runs.
A clean hit for 6 from the first delivery broke the Ravens’ wings, as they couldn’t deny Cotton Field an exciting win with 2 deliveries to spare. Former Essequibo senior inter-county all-rounder Elroy Stephney (2-26) and Safraz Ally (2-24) bowled in a losing cause.
Action in this tournament will continue with Bacchus Bulls doing battle with Affiance Sports Club, and Ravens duking it out with Ramkisson’s X1. These matches will take place at the Affiance Ground, while, over at Reliance Ground, Queenstown Sports Club will see off Reliance Sports Club, and Cotton Field Strikers will take on the Rebels.
