The semi-finals of the GT Beer Sponsored , Petra Futsal Championships had the National Gymnasium in a frenzy on Saturday evening as Back Circle booted the formidable defending champions Bent Street from the competition to set up a clash with Sparta Boss in the final.
Bent Street lost to Back Circle 3-1 but the champs happened to be the early aggressor in the match with Konata Manning finding the back of the net in the third minute with a shot from close range that simply could not be stopped.
Jermaine Beckles equalizer in the13th minute sparked Back Circle and they were instantly ignited with more energy especially with the massive crowd in full support.
The next goal came from Selwyn William in the 27th minute that sparked jubilation by the crowd as it was clear which team was the favourite to win by the fan support.
With Bent Street desperately trying to equalize to save their chances of appearing in the final, their eagerness resulted in a brilliant counter by Back Circle that resulted in an Akeemo Anthony goal just two minutes before full time (38th) that sent the crowd into a frenzy.
Meanwhile Sparta Boss had probably their best showing of the tournament so far with a 4-1 win against an underwhelming Sophia squad.
Sparta Boss came across as highly dominant scoring 10 seconds into the game with a strike from Gregory ‘Jackie Chan’ Richardson that left the Sophia team stunned.
Even Sparta Boss’s only blunder by scoring an own goal in the third minute of the match to level the score a 1-1 was simply not enough to derail the popular street football team from making their way into the final.
Eusi Phillips and Cleon Forester would go onto score goals in the 12th and 39th minutes respectively while Richardson notched a double in the 21st minute of the match.
The final of the tournament which is also sponsored by NAMILCO and Star Party rentals will be played on April 15 where the winner of the tournament is set to pocket $400,000 and the championship trophy while the second, third and fourth place finishers will collect $200,000, $100,000 and $50,000 respectively and the correspondingly accolade.
