Bagotstown shopkeeper denies forging money

A 55-year-old shopkeeper of Bagotstown, East Bank Demerara (EBD), was arrested on Sunday by ranks of the Mocha/Herstelling Police Outpost and later charged for the offence of forgery.

While Police did not release any details on the incident, Guyana Times was informed that the man, Mark Carmichael, was charged on Tuesday with the offence of possession of a forged currency note.
This charge was contrary to Section 271 of the Criminal Law (Offences) Act, Chapter 8:01. It was reported that the incident occurred on Sunday at National Stadium, Providence, East Bank Demerara.
He appeared at the Diamond/Golden Grove Magistrates’ Court before Principal Magistrate Judy Latchman, where the charge was read to him, the Administrative Justice Act (AJA) applied and he pleaded not guilty.
He was released on $20,000 bail and the case was adjourned to October 14. (G9)
