The second and final two-day practice match between England and CWI President’s XI was dominated by Jonny Bairstow and Rory Burns. England went out to bat at the Three Ws Oval in Bridgetown Barbados and scored 379 all out on day 1. Left-handed opener Rory Burns and Keaton Jennings went out to bat and scored 30 runs together for the opening partnership. Jennings was trapped in front by Guyana Jaguars player Raymond Reifer for seven.
Burns and Bairstow dominated the CWI PXI bowlers, adding 118 runs together in quick time. Burns scored a rapid 68 from 69 balls, including nine fours. He was
dismissed by Trinidadian Bryan Charles out stumped by Hamilton.
Bairstow faced 112 balls, hitting 10 fours and two sixes in his explosive 98. He was Reifer’s second victim when he was caught by Guyanese Vishaul Singh. Butler was Reifer’s third wicket when he was caught behind for three. Ali went for six and Denly was out for 12. Wicket-keeper Ben Foakes was out bowled by Guyana Jaguars player Chanderpaul Hemraj for 22. Sam Curran came and hit the bowlers to all parts of the ground in an attractive 47 from 64 balls.
Chris Woakes scored 43, while leg-spinner Adil Rashid chipped in with 48 batting at number 10. The Englishmen looked unbothered with the bowling, and their batsman and some of their bowling all-rounders got among the runs.
Raymond Reifer was the best bower with 3-39 from 11 overs, inclusive of three maidens; while John Campbell grabbed 3-58 in 11.4 overs. Chanderpaul Hemraj, Miguel Cummins, Chemar Holder and Bryan Charles had one wicket each. England bowlers will be looking to get some bowling practice on the second and final day, ahead of the first test that is scheduled for January 23, 2019. (Brandon
