Construction of a one-kilometre reinforced concrete road in Bamboo Creek Village, Region Eight (Potaro-Siparuni), is approximately 30 per cent complete, with 50 residents employed under the Government’s Community Participation Model.
The Public Works Ministry, in a social media post, said the project commenced on October 1, 2026, and is scheduled for completion by the end of November.
The initiative is being executed through the ministry’s Special Projects Unit, with the Government supplying construction materials, tools, machinery and technical engineering oversight. Both skilled and unskilled labour are being sourced from within the village.

According to the ministry, the approach provides direct employment for residents while allowing them to develop construction skills and earn income for their households.
The project, the ministry said, involves the construction of a 24-foot-wide, eight-inch-thick reinforced concrete roadway designed to accommodate daily traffic and withstand weather conditions in the interior.
Drainage culverts are also being installed to improve water runoff and reduce soil erosion, helping to maintain access within the community throughout the year.
The ministry said the project forms part of its wider programme to upgrade hinterland infrastructure, improve connectivity between coastal and interior communities, and create employment opportunities through community-based development initiatives.
