A suspected armed robber was shot and killed on Wednesday night after an attempted robbery at a supermarket on Mandela Avenue, Georgetown.
According to preliminary investigations, the incident occurred at about 20:40h when three men entered the “People’s Choice” supermarket. Police said one of the men was armed with a handgun.

The suspects allegedly held two unarmed security guards at gunpoint and ordered them to lie on the ground.
During the incident, a Police rank who was on mobile patrol reportedly observed what was taking place, and approached the suspects.
Police said the armed suspect discharged a round in the direction of the officer, who returned fire with his service pistol.
The suspects then fled the supermarket in different directions. The armed suspect subsequently fell into a nearby drain along Mandela Avenue.
Investigators recovered a .38 revolver containing three live rounds along with several spent shells at the scene.
The suspect was later examined by a doctor on duty and pronounced dead.
Police have launched an investigation.
