Bandit shot during botched ECD robbery

A bandit is now under Police guard at the Georgetown Public Hospital after he was shot while attempting to rob a security guard on the East Coast of Demerara (ECD).
Reports are that the incident occurred on Thursday at about 23:30h on the Bachelors’ Adventure Public Road, East Coast Demerara (ECD).
Guyana Times understands that the 39-year-old security guard, who resides at Bachelor’s Adventure, was walking home when the incident occurred.
This newspaper was told that two men on motorcycle approached the guard, and as they drew parallel to him, the pillion rider pulled out a gun and pointed it at the guard.
In retaliation, the security guard grabbed the gunman, and a scuffle ensued.
The bandit, however, fired a shot during the scuffle, injuring his accomplice in the process.
After shooting his accomplice, the bandit got up and fled the scene of the crime, reportedly into a nearby cemetery, and made good his escape.
However, the injured bandit, who also attempted to flee, was subdued by the guard, who managed to grab hold of the weapon.
The Police were called to the scene, and the gunman, along with the .32 revolver, one spent shell and the motorcycle, were handed over.
The bandit was taken to GPHC where he is said to be in a stable condition.
An investigation has been launched, and a manhunt is continuing for the accomplice.
