A 68-year-old taxi driver was beaten and robbed of his vehicle, HC 336, by two men, along Agriculture Road, East Coast Demerara (ECD).
Guyana Times understands that the hijacking occurred at about 11:45h at Agriculture Road, East Coast Demerara (ECD).
Reports are that the driver was parked at Mon Repos, ECD, on Thursday when the two men approached him and requested a taxi to take them to the National Agricultural Research and Extension Institute (NAREI).
The driver accepted the men’s request for transport and they entered the white Toyota “212” car.
According to Police, one of the suspects sat in the front passenger seat, while the other sat behind the driver.
The taxi driver told Police while he was proceeding south along Agriculture Road, one of the suspects told him that he had passed their destination. Police said that the driver reported that he stopped the car, turned around and proceeded north on the said road.
Police said that the suspect, who was seated behind the driver, pounced on him and began dealing him several blows to his neck. Due to the impact of the blows, the man said he became dizzy.
During that time, the other bandit exited the vehicle, pulled the driver out of the car and threw him onto the road, before driving away with the car.
No one was arrested, and Police are still on the hunt for the stolen car. (G9)
