Bandits hijack taxi with passenger

Police have launched an investigation into a hijacking on the East Coast of Demerara which has left a 34-year-old taxi driver counting his losses.
It was reported that about 20:30h on Tuesday, taxi driver Kevin Hope was called to a city hotel, where he picked up a male passenger to take him to a location at Good Success, East Bank Demerara (EBD). Police said that the taxi driver reported that upon his arrival at the location, he was confronted by two males. He said that one of the men who was armed with a hand gun rushed towards him and struck him to his head. He said the man discharged a round into the air during the robbery.
Reports are that Hope was ordered to exit his vehicle, HC 8929, and he complied. The two bandits then boarded the vehicle with the passenger still in the car, and drove off in a southerly direction.
Hope told Police that apart from the car, which was valued at $3.2 million, the armed bandits carted off one A21 Samsung cellphone valued $48,000, a jumper kit valued $15,000, a Motorola radio set valued $50,000 and $2000 in cash.
An investigation has been launched. (G9)
