Bandits invade WBD Chinese restaurant

Several persons are now in Police custody following a robbery at Oceans Chinese Restaurant, at Goed Fortuin, West Bank Demerara, in the wee hours of Thursday morning. Reports are the incident took place at about 03:00h.crime-scene-response-unit-01

Guyana Times was told that one of the workers was awoken by a strange sound and upon enquiring, was confronted by a group of men who took away his mobile phone after which he was taken into the living quarters where they demanded money and other valuables.

The men were carrying cutlasses, crowbars, knives and a handgun. While in the building, the armed men ransacked several rooms but did not find cash; however, they took away several mobile phones, a laptop computer and several bottles of high end alcohol. The men then left on foot after which the owner of the restaurant, Suean (only name) contacted the Police.

As the Police arrived at the scene, they found a gun which was dropped by one of the men and it turned out to be a toy gun. However, the toy was dusted for finger prints as the Police continue their investigations.

When contacted, D Division Commander, Leslie James confirmed the robbery took place and that several persons were arrested and are assisting in the investigations. He also confirmed that the instrument used in the commissioning of the robbery was a toy gun.
