Tower Hotel employee robbery

Detectives attached to the Guyana Police Force’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID) have broadened their investigations into the two suspects who were nabbed shortly after robbing an accountant attached to the Tower Hotel on Wednesday. robbery
Crime Chief Wendell Blanhum told Guyana Times on Thursday that the Police would not be charging the men anytime soon, since they were being investigated for similar crimes committed in the city.
However, Blanhum noted that even though the probe was focused on offences within Georgetown, it would be expanded given the spate of robberies in the capital’s outskirts such as East Coast Demerara villages.
Moments after relieving the accountant of a bag containing $2.5 million, the two men were apprehended by Police who responded promptly to the crime.
Based on information received, some time around 12:30h, the accountant returned from making a substantial withdrawal from a city bank and was about to disembark his vehicle in front of the Main Street, Georgetown hotel when he was confronted by two men on a CG motorcycle.
One of the suspects approached the man and in the process discharged a round from the firearm he was carrying which struck a security guard, who was in the parked vehicle, to his abdomen. The suspect then broke the car window, snatched the bag containing the cash and jumped onto the motorcycle which fled the scene.
A mobile Police patrol acting on information received pursued the suspects, who tried to evade them, but instead ended up in the Sussex Street Canal in the vicinity of North East La Penitence. The motorcycle and a significant amount of cash were also recovered.
