Bandits rob 71-year-old of pension

Moments after relieving a 71-year-old man of his old-age pension at Vryheid’s Lust, East Coast Demerara (ECD) on Monday, two bandits were arrested.
They are expected to make their court appearance today.
The robbers have been identified as Devon Watson, also called “Ivan” of Lot 100 Noble Street, Friendship, ECD and Philbert Rogers, also called “Dagan” of Lot 59 Friendship, ECD. Both men are aged 25.
Reports are the La Ressouvenir, ECD pensioner collected his pension and afterwards stopped to purchase a snack at a supermarket at Vryheid’s Lust. As he was leaving on his pedal cycle, two bandits confronted him and took away the envelope containing his money.
After relieving the elderly man of his money, they then pushed him to the ground and made good their escape.
However, minutes later, the pensioner stopped a Police patrol and related what had transpired. At the time, Deputy Commander of C Division (East Coast Demerara), Walter Stanton was in the vehicle.
Based on the general description of the suspects, the men were arrested at La Bonne Intention (LBI) with the victim’s belongings including his Identification Card that was found hidden in one of the men’s crotch.
As such, they were charged with robbery with violence and were scheduled to appear before a Magistrate at the Sparendaam Magistrate’s Courts.
