A Guyanese miner on Friday sustained chops about his body and had his foot completely severed during an armed robbery that occurred at Lago’s Apartment at Apaiqua Landing in the Mazaruni, Region Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni).
The miner, 31-year-old Tameshwar Sukram of Enterprise Squatting Area, East Coast Demerara (ECD), who employed by Crown Mining Company.
Guyana Times was told that a 42-year-old Brazilian businessman who tried to help the miner during the robbery also received chops about his body and had one of his fingers severed.
Reports are that at about 01:30h on Friday, Sukram was asleep in his apartment when he was awakened by two men, who demanded money. One of the men was armed with a gun, and his accomplice had a cutlass. This newspaper was told that Sukram refused to comply with the bandits’ demand, and the bandit who was armed with the cutlass dealt him several chops about his body. Sukram’s left foot was chopped off from just below the knee.
During the ordeal, Sukram managed to raise an alarm, and Brazilian businessman Jose Da Silva, called “Lago”, of Apaiqua Landing, went to his assistance. However, Da Silva was also attacked and chopped, losing his left ring finger in the process.
The two perpetrators then escaped with $800,000, leaving both Sukram and Da Silva bleeding at the scene.
After the bandits had left, other residents responded, and the two injured men were rushed to the Isseneru Medical Health Centre, where they were treated. However, due to the severity of their injuries, they were both air-dashed to the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPHC).
Meanwhile, the Police are on the hunt for these two men.
This publication was informed that the suspect who was armed with the gun is referred to in the area as “Shadow”. Investigations are underway. (G9)
