Bandits shoot Minister’s bodyguard during attempted robbery

The bodyguard of Minister Keith Scott was shot twice on Monday during an attempted robbery.
Reports are the 62-year-old man, who is a member of the Rural Constabulary, was shot at about 06:30h at Market Street, East Ruimveldt, Georgetown.
According to Police, two males on a motorcycle pounced on the elderly man and demanded his jewellery.
The police in a statement said that the man, who was armed with a Force-issued handgun, refused to comply and was shot twice by the pillion rider in the lower region of his body. Reports are the men fled empty-handed after the victim drew his service weapon and discharged a round in their direction.
The elderly man was rushed to a city hospital and is reported to be in a stable condition. Police have since launched an investigation. No one has been arrested.
