Five days after being stabbed to her neck by her reputed husband, Republic Bank teller, Sheria Khalil is still fighting for her life at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC).
The 22-year-old is said to be in a critical but stable condition. Her reputed husband, Clifton Richmond also called “Steve”, has since died after he drunk a poisonous substance following the stabbing.
Reports are that on January 30, the 24-year-old man stabbed Khalil in a church compound close to their Timehri, East Bank Demerara (EBD) home. Following the attack, Richmond consumed a poisonous substance and jumped into the Demerara River but was pulled out in an unconscious state.
Reports are Richmond had made arrangements to pick up his reputed wife at her workplace. However, when he went there, she had already left. He then went to their Lot 25 Timehri Public Road, East Bank Demerara (EBD) home and she arrived at about 21:15h.
According to reports, Khalil disembarked a Route 42 minibus and Richmond, who was in the yard, walked towards her on the public road where an argument ensued.
This newspaper was told that during the argument, Richmond lifted his wife off the ground and took her into a nearby churchyard. Khalil’s family reported that they heard her screams and rushed to that location where they noticed the 22-year-old bleeding profusely from a stab wound at the left side of her neck.
Both Khalil and Richmond were rushed to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre. They were later transferred to GPHC. Richmond subsequently succumbed.
