Banks DIH commissions new vehicle workshop

…aimed at providing 100 jobs

A new vehicle workshop has been commissioned by Banks DIH (D’Aguiar’s Industries and Holdings) Limited on Saturday.
The workshop, which is located at Caribanks, opposite Thirst Park, was launched in the company of Minister of State Joseph Harmon; Public Infrastructure Minister David Patterson; along with representatives of the diplomatic corps.
Speaking at the event, Minister Harmon explained that this initiative will aid in the in the development of the ties between Guyana and its Private Sector.
“I’m happy to note that the majority of the Private Sector are out there, doing things and taking advantage of these glorious opportunities which now present themselves,” he stated.
He further added that the investments in Guyana are increased with such projects. The introduction of this workshop is expected to provide employment for some 100 persons. As such, Harmon requested that jobs be given to young qualified Guyanese.
Meanwhile, Marketing Director of Banks DIH, George Mc Donald, gave a brief insight on the project which took approximately two years to complete.
“We expect to see optimised fleets of availability and the provision of the best possible building services and environmental control support in this location. This new facility has been given the task of providing technical support for our fleet of over 200 vehicles,” said Mc Donald.
He added that this is “just the beginning” and Guyana will see much more in the future. Along with the new workshop, the facilities feature a power generation plant, a waste water treatment plant and a waste plastics facility which was created to engage in clean enterprises of manufacturing. The company is also considering investing further in the expansion of the facilities which has outgrown the large-scale manufacturing plant.
