Banks DIH truck collides with Bakewell truck, car at WCB

A driver was injured on Friday morning after two trucks, one belonging to food conglomerate Banks DIH Limited and the other to bakery company Bakewell, collided with a motor car at Number 28 Village, West Coast Berbice (WCB).

The damaged vehicles

According to Police, the accident occurred about 09:05h. The injured man has been identified as the 49-year-old driver of the Bakewell truck, Ravendra Arjune.
Reports are that the Banks DIH Limited truck, bearing registration number GXX 1012, was heading west from New Amsterdam to Georgetown while the Bakewell truck, GYY 3967, was heading in the opposite direction.
According to the driver of the Banks DIH Limited vehicle, a truck that was transporting sand suddenly stopped in front of him, causing him to suddenly apply brakes.
However, he was unable to stop in time, which led to the collision. Guyana Times understands that the man swerved right into the path of the Bakewell truck, pinning the driver inside the vehicle.
Following the collision, the Banks DIH truck skidded and slammed into motor car PLL 8177.
This publication was told by eyewitnesses that the driver of the Bakewell truck was eventually freed from the mangled wreck about one hour later.
Regional Commander Edmond Copper told this newspaper that the driver of the Bakewell truck was currently hospitalised while the driver of the Banks DIH truck was taken into Police custody for questioning.
An investigation into the accident is ongoing. (G9)
