A 24-year-old barber was on Monday hauled before the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts on charges of assaulting and making mockery of a man who is differently abled.
Kevin Sugrim stood before Principal Magistrate Judy Latchman and denied that he unlawfully and maliciously inflicted grievous bodily harm on Colin Sett-Mayer while in the vicinity of Kitty, Georgetown on April 22, 2018.
Another charge read to Sugrim stated that also on April 22, 2018 at the same location, he also unlawfully wounded Jeremiah Williams with intention to cause him actual bodily harm.
The prosecution is contending that on the day in question about 11:30h the victims were walking among others when the defendant made fun of his disabilities. It is alleged that the defendant then dealt the virtual complainant several punches and kicks about the body, which resulted in his receiving three and five centimetre lacerations to the left side of his abdomen.
Sugrim was only recently arrested for the offences.
He was released on $180,000 bail for the offences. The case will continue on October 15, 2018.
