Barnwell’s bat has done the positive talking in Regionals

Guyana Jaguars senior all-rounder Christopher Barnwell has been chalking up some strong performances with the bat in the Regional 4-Day and Regional Super50 tournaments.

Christopher Barnwell batting in the Regional 4-Day

Barnwell, in recent times, looked a more controlled batsman who goes about his business in a positive manner. When on sound, he’s a treat to watch.
In the recently concluded 2020 Regional 4-Day tournament, Barnwell was one of the two centurions for Jaguars. The 33-year-old Barnwell scored 435 runs in the eight matches in the truncated 2020 season, with a high-score of 107, including one century and two fifties. He had an average of 33.46 batting in the middle-order.
In the 2019-2020 Regional Super50 season, Barnwell had the most runs for Guyana Jaguars. He accumulated 351 runs at a stunning average of 43.87, with a high-score of 89, including three half-centuries. That season’s performance came on the back of a strong Super50 season in 2018, when Barnwell scored 282 runs for Jaguars at an average of 47. He had a high-score of 99*, including two half-centuries in that season.
The dominant Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) player has certainly been a quiet achiever at the Regional level for Jaguars in recent times. If Barnwell’s three strong Super50 seasons were to be combined, he scored 873 runs at an average of 46.29 with seven half-centuries.
He took this strong performance into the red-ball format. This lad, who has played for St Lucia Zouks in the 2019 Hero Caribbean Premier League, has been enjoying this second coming at the Regional level.
At this time in his career, Barnwell has matured into a solid middle-order batsman who has been capable of playing the big shots. He has 61 first-class matches under his belt, with 2406 runs, including two centuries and 12 fifties.
Barnwell, who played six T20 Internationals for West Indies between 2011-2013, has 85 first-class wickets with three five-wicket hauls. In his List A career, he has 1467 runs in 59 matches at an average just below 30.
Barnwell has dominated local cricket in Guyana, and has established himself at the Regional level. Of late, his bat has been doing the positive talking. (Brandon Corlette)
