Randolph Williams, called Travis, a 27-year-old bartender of Cotton Field, Essequibo Coast, was on Wednesday committed by Anna Regina Magistrate Esther Sam to stand trial for rape of a child under 16, contrary to Section 10 (3) of the Sexual Offences Act.
Williams is accused of committing the crime on May 21, 2023, and all statements and documents have been tendered and marked as exhibits during Wednesday’s hearing.
Magistrate Sam has ruled that, based on the statements and exhibits tendered, there is sufficient evidence for the accused to be committed to stand trial. Williams is therefore expected to face a judge and jury at the next practicable sitting of the Essequibo Criminal Assizes. In the meantime, he is out on $150,000 bail.(G1)
