Family members of a 38-year-old miner of Third Avenue, Bartica, Region Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni) are in mourning after he was stabbed to death on Monday.
Dead is Eon Anthony Ramnarine.
It was reported that the man was stabbed to death at Obanna Backdam, Region Eight (Potaro-Siparuni) around 11:00h, by a 25-year-old miner, who has since been arrested.
Police said Ramnarine and the suspect were known to each other, since their camps are located in close proximity.
It is alleged that the suspect was in the habit of talking to himself and the now-deceased man would throw hints at him and call him a “mad man” and an “auntie man” among other names.
On Monday, the suspect was passing next to Ramnarine’s camp to go to his worksite when an argument ensued.
At the time, Police said, the suspect had in his possession a knife he was allegedly taking to his father to scrape an engine head.
However, during the row, Ramnarine picked up a piece of wood and lashed the suspect to his head and foot.
In retaliation, the suspect, who was armed with the knife, stabbed the miner about his body causing him to fall to the ground and become motionless.
The suspect then went to his father, who was at their worksite, and told him what had transpired, leaving Ramnarine’s body at the scene.
Guyana Times understands that it was a passer-by who saw the man’s body in the area and called the Police.
Upon the Police’s arrival, the suspect was arrested and he handed over the murder weapon to the cops.
The body of Ramnarine was then taken to Mahdia Hospital, where it was examined and his death confirmed. Investigations are still ongoing. (G9)
