Bartica woman found at mining pit died from strangulation – PME

A post-mortem examination has revealed that the 28-year-old woman who was found at an abandoned mining pit at Three Miles, Karrau Backdam, Region Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni), died as a result of strangulation.
Rosella Smith of Bamford Point, Bartica, was found at the site last Friday.
Investigations revealed that when Smith’s camp was visited, it was found to be ransacked and persons saw a man leaving the Backdam with a bag and bucket at about 11:00h on Friday.
Smith was found face down by a 23-year-old miner at about 12:30h.
At that time, there were no marks of violence on her body but blood was seen around her nostrils.
The body was taken to Bartica Regional Hospital and was later escorted to the Lyken Funeral Home.
Police said at the time of her death, she was selling groceries from a makeshift camp.
The Guyana Police Force later indicated that they are on the hunt for a man, identified only as “Blackboy” of Onderneeming Sand Pit, Essequibo Coast, Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam). He was last seen in the company of Smith before her demise.
She was last seen at about 20:00h on May 14 at her camp in the company of “Blackboy” and according to Police, “she was last heard laughing and talking with the said Blackboy”.
