Baseball bat assault lands man on remand

Nkosie Gittens, who is alleged to have assaulted Ronel Ault with a baseball bat on July 18, 2017 at Middle Road, La Penitence Georgetown, was on Wednesday arraigned before a Georgetown magistrate, charged with unlawfully and maliciously inflicting grievous bodily harm.

The prosecution’s case is that the two men know each other but are currently not on speaking terms. On the day in question, the VC was sitting in an alleyway when the defendant approached him with a baseball bat and dealt him several lashes about his body, causing him to sustain injuries that included a broken left arm.

The matter was reported and the defendant was arrested and charged.

The unrepresented defendant denied committing the offence, but the prosecution objected to his being granted bail on ground that he has a matter involving attempted robbery currently ongoing in another court. Gittens was therefore remanded to prison until August 11, when his matter would again engage the magistrate’s attention.
