Batsmen dominate WDCA T/20 1st round

Maxwell, Esau record centuries

It was a delightful weekend for batsmen in the first round of West Demerara Cricket Association Independence (WDCA) T/20 tourney as two centuries were recorded, two half century and several cameos which led to mammoth scores.
At Meten-Meer-Zorg (MMZ) Jermaine Maxwell scored a scintillating century (111 not out) to give his team, MMZ B a comprehensive eight wicket victory. MMZ B made 162/2 In 20 overs, Maxwell’s century included 10 fours and six sixes while Dexroy Hyman 30 chipped in.
Randy Ramroop claimed 1/30. All Youths A Team made 160/5 from 20 overs batting first. Randy Ramroop 49 and Jermaine Ramroop 27 were their main scorers while Sudesh Sewchand captured 2/24

At Joe Vieira Park former national under-15 wicket keeper batsman Sarfraz Esau hit a blistering century to propel his team, Independence Sports Club A, to a big score batting first as well as a comfortable victory.
Taking first strike Independence A Team scored 203/8 in their allotted 20 overs with Esau top scoring with 107 (10×6 6×4) and Vickash Dhaniram 46. David Alert 2/29 and V. Jadunath 2/36 were the chief bowlers for Number 2, who made 167 all out in 17.2 of their reply.
B. Baksh and B.Bandoo 39 led the way with the bat while for Independence Mahendra Dhanpaul 3/21  and Javon Hector 4/19 were spectacular with the ball.
While at Belle Vue Mc Gill Super Star led by Guyana under-19 captain Travis Persaud convincingly defeated Christ Ambassadors by 62 runs. McGill made 200/7 in 20 overs with Persaud hitting his way to 91 (15×4 2×6) while his father, Sudesh Persaud, contributed 38. Kenton Boyce 2/45 and Juwon Dickinson 2/28 snared two wickets each for Christ Ambassadors, who reached 138/6 when their 20 overs expired. Greyson Paul made 48 and Kevin Paul 43 in a stubborn batting display as Shafiek Deen 3/17 bowled well to restrict their other batsmen.
Meanwhile at Zeeburg, Belle West Sports Club were routed for 125 in 18 overs with S.Miranjie 36 and R.Mangra 22 making scores over 20 while Timour Mohamed 3/2 and Mark Jeffer 3/28 claimed three wickets apiece. Zeeburg Sports Club raced to 126/2 In 10 overs with Yutesh Dhanpaul hitting a cameo of 66 (6×6 5×4) and Balbinder Shivpersaud supporting with 26.
Competition is expected to continue this weekend at several venues in West Demerara.
