BCB launches GuyBiz Female 40-over Tournament

…Patron to support Cricket Development Programme

Female cricketers in the Ancient County of Berbice will soon be able to reap the fruit of a cricket tournament, following its absence for a few years.
This is as a result of the Berbice Cricket Board (BCB), on Thursday last, launching the BCB/GuyBiz Female Tournament during a simple presentation ceremony at the company’s head office in Bel Air, East Coast Demerara (ECD).
BCB President Dr Cecil Beharry stated that his board, in 2026, intends to play the game at all levels as part of a comprehensive developmental programme. He stated that female cricket will be given special emphasis during the year with the BCB eyeing the hosting of another tournament to support the GuyBiz 40-over tournament.
The BCB expects three teams – Rose Hall Town Metro, Rose Hall Canje and West Berbice – to play in the round-robin tournament with the top two teams advancing to the final. The top team will receive a $60,000 grand prize and the winners’ trophy, while the runners-up and the third-place finisher will also be rewarded financially.

Rose Hall Town Metro are expected to be led by national captain Shemaine Campbelle and she will be supported by Shenetta Grimmond, Shabika Gajnabi, Trisha Hardat, Danielle Manns, Sherica Campbelle, Plaffiana Millington, Jada Fraser, and Daniela Hicks among others.
Rose Hall Canje’s challenge would be spearheaded by the exciting Realeanna Grimmond, skipper Ashmini Munisar, Tiffany Rose, Renata Ramdeo, Crystal Durant, and Sarah Sewnarine.
Meanwhile, West Berbice would depend heavily on Tia Issacs, Tameka George, and Katana Mentore.
President Beharry expressed confidence that the tournament would be well organised and the female players will take the opportunity to showcase their talents on the cricket field.
BCB Administrator Angela Haniff, who is also the Manager of the Senior Inter-County team, stated that the tournament would assist the female cricketers greatly as there is no cricket in Guyana for them, apart from inter-county competitions. She urged the players to recommit themselves to the game and to take advantage of the hard work of the BCB.
Sponsor Ishwar Singh expressed delight at sponsoring the tournament and congratulated the BCB for its interest in the development of the female players. He committed himself to continuing to support Berbice cricket and also handed over a small contribution to the printing of the BCB coaching manual.
Meanwhile, the BCB delegation led by President Dr Beharry and four other members met with Board Patron, Natural Resources Minister Vickram Bharrat for about an hour at his Duke Street, Kingston office. The delegation brought the Honorary Patron up to date on the BCB plans for 2026 which include over 15 tournaments at all levels and several developmental programmes. The Patron committed himself to sponsoring the two-day First-Division tournament in 2026 and several personal development programmes for youth players including the cricket academy.
The two parties also agreed to the hosting of a historic T10 tournament, involving the top eight First-Division clubs in Berbice during the month of November. The tournament will be played under the patronage of Minister Bharrat and would include special prizes and incentives for players.
According to the BCB, efforts will also be made to ensure the presence of a former West Indies Captain during the tournament. Funds raised from the tournament would be used for the BCB youth programmes.
