BCB launches YWCC/GuyBiz Educational Trust Fund for Berbice youth players
“I am delighted at the current development of the Berbice Cricket Board (BCB) under the dynamic leadership of Hilbert Foster and as such, I decided to get involved in the process. Mr Foster has led by example and has promoted the importance of having an educational background for all youth cricketers. This donation is from me, my business GuyBiz Inc, and the Young Warriors Cricket Club, of which I am a very proud member.”
Those were the words of businessman Ishwar Singh as he handed over 35 educational packages to the BCB.
The businessman had last Thursday approached BCB President Foster to give back something to Berbice cricket and after a short discussion, it was agreed that the YWCC/GuyBiz Inc Educational Trust Fund would be set up to assist youth cricketers in the New Amsterdam-Canje area with educational materials. Foster, over the course of his four-year presidency, has made it a mission to assist youths to complete their education via the provision of materials, scholarships, uniforms, and educational grants.
The packages include a school bag and a full array of necessary supplies. Players from the following clubs would benefit: Tucber Park, Mount Sinai, Kendall Union, East Bank Blazers, Edinburgh, Guymine and Rose Hall Canje. Foster, who was re-elected unopposed at the BCB Annual General Meeting (AGM) later in the day, noted that hundreds of youth cricketers would benefit from educational materials and grants in the next two years and hailed the contribution of Singh. He stated that it was very pleasing when former Inter- County players like Singh give back to the game.
He also congratulated the Young Warriors Cricket Club for its role, stating that he hoped the club returned to its former glory. The YWCC has produced players like West Indies Test batsman Shimron Hetmyer, Richard Ramdeed, Gajanand Singh, Ishwar Singh, Linden Austin, Paul Wiltz, Alex Algoo, and Seon Hetmyer.
