The Berbice Cricket Board (BCB) on Saturday last honoured Mrs Veronica Cecil as its 2020 Brian Ramphal Mother of the Year.
President Hilbert Foster noted that Mrs Cecil is the proud parent of Leon and Damien Cecil, two players of the Albion Community Centre Cricket Club who represented Berbice at the Under-17 and Under-15 levels respectively earlier this year.
Both players are very talented and have promising careers. BCB Public Relations Officer (PRO) Simon Naidu
handed over a trophy, medal, and several gifts to the proud mother. The BCB programme is sponsored by overseas-based Guyanese Brian Ramphal. Meanwhile, Mrs Rohanie Ramsarran, of Portuguese Quarter, Port Mourant, was also honoured as the Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club (RHTY&SC) Mother of the Year 2020 by the 10 cricket teams of the Club. She is the proud mother of national junior cricketer Jonathan Rampersaud.
In extending Mother’s Day greetings to all mothers, Naidu said Ramsarran, “as the RHTY&SC,MS/DTV-8 Mother of the Year, is a perfect role-model parent, who sacrifices a lot to make sure that her son … excels in his school work and on the cricket field”.
“She is known to show up at venues along with her husband to support Jonathan, who has represented Berbice and Guyana at the junior levels with success.” The teams handed over a collection of gifts, trophies, and medals.
Additionally, the BCB with support from the RHTY&SC on Saturday last handed over 10 scorebooks to Assistant Secretary Ameer Rahaman for distribution to teams in the New Amsterdam/Canje area. The distribution of scorebooks is a continuation of President Foster’s effort to assist clubs across Berbice. Representatives of Tucber Park, Young Warriors Cricket Club, Edinburgh, Police, Kendall’s Union, Kendall Union Sports Club, Mt Sinai, East Bank Blazers, Flying Star CC and Good Banana Land are asked to contact Rahaman on 642-0890 to uplift their scorebook.
The West Berbice area will also receive a donation of scorebooks under the $300,000 project. The BCB also handed over a scorebook and a copy of the Melbourne Cricket Club (MCC) Laws of Cricket to the Albion CC as the Board’s cricket development programme continues across Berbice despite the ongoing coronavirus crisis.
