BCB Tenelec Inc First Division; Joseph’s 6-wicket haul blows West Berbice away; Anderson, Sinclair hit centuries

– Young Warriors beat Port Mourant

Tucber Park fast bowler Shamar Joseph, and Rose Hall Town duo Kevlon Anderson and Kevin Sinclair were among the star performers in the first round of the Berbice Cricket Board (BCB) Tenelec Inc First Division tournament. In matches played across the Ancient County, Tucber Park, Rose Hall Town Namilco and Young Warriors recorded victories.

In the match played at Cotton Tree, debutant Joseph had figures of 6-12 from 4.3 overs to rock West Berbice to 37 all out in 14.3 overs. The right-arm speedster was the architect of Tucber Park’s seven-wicket win, and he was supported by off-spinner Kwesi Mickle, who claimed 3-13 in three overs. In reply, Tucber Park ended on 42-3, with Garfield Benjamin on 18 not out.
In another one-sided contest, Rose Hall Town thumped Blairmont Blazers by 204 runs. Rose Hall Town posted 293 for 7 off 50 overs with Anderson hitting 104 and Kevin Sinclair scoring 101. Anderson’s classy knock included six fours while the aggressive Sinclair struck seven fours and five sixes. The duo featured in a 105-run partnership for the second wicket. Seon Glasgow claimed 3 for 48 off 9 overs for the Blairmont boys playing at Albion.
In reply, Blairmont Blazers were blown away for 89 all out in 26.2 overs. Nigel Deodat top-scored with 26. Bowling for Rose Hall Town, Junior Sinclair had 3 for 12 off 6.2 overs while Kevin Sinclair and Clinton Pestano had two wickets each.
Meanwhile, in the other match at Port Mourant, Young Warriors snatched a one-wicket win against the home team. Suresh Dhanai had a good all-round game. Port Mourant posted 190 all out in 37.1 overs with Joshua Ramsammy scoring 56 and Rampertab Ramnauth hitting 40. Bowling for Young Warriors, seamer Dhanai had 3 for 43 off 8 overs while Trevon Stanislaus had 3 for 27 off 8 overs.
Young Warriors, in response, scored 193-9 in 38 overs. Kassim Khan’s 38 not out and Dhanai’s 30 ensured a close win. Vickey Samaroo had 2 for 23 off 6 overs and Yogendra Harrinarine had 2 for 41 off 7 overs for Port Mourant. (Brandon Corlette)
