BCB U-15 tourney up & running

– Central/Upper Corentyne, West Berbice record opening wins

The Berbice Cricket Board’s Under 15 Inter Zone 50 overs tournament commenced last Sunday across two venues with the young aspiring cricketers showing true grit, as they sought to impress the selectors ahead of the Guyana Cricket Board’s Inter County tournament set for February 2018.
At the Young Warriors Cricket Club in Cumberland, Central/Upper Corentyne convincingly defeated their peers from the New Amsterdam/Canje Zone by 59 runs. Winning the toss and opting to bowl, NA/Canje’s bowlers had their work cut out, as the Corentyne lads rallied to 159 for 9. Batting for The Upper Corentyne, J. Rampersaud top scored with 38 while B Downer and R. Rampersaud contributed 18 and 14 respectively.

West Berbice won their opening fixture handsomely at home and will now hit the road for their next match

Bowling for New Amsterdam/Canje, C. Arokium took 4 for 59, N Samuels 2-39 while Isia Thorne and T Caesar took one each.
In their reply, New Amsterdam Canje were shot out for 100 as the Upper Corentyne bowlers continued to make light work of the NA/Canje batsmen. Avishkar Persaud top scored with 24 while T Ceasar scored 10. All the other batsmen failed to reach double figures.

Bowling for Central/Upper Corentyne, Rampertab Ramnauth was the pick of the bowlers, taking 4 wickets for 17 runs in his 8 overs spell and was supported by J. Rampersaud, N. Singh, A. Munroe and J. Sandia with one a-piece.
At the Bushlot Ground in West Berbice, West Berbice defeated Lower Corentyne by 75 runs in their encounter. Batting first, West Berbice scored 128; S Safie 16, A Balman 20 and D Joseph 18. Bowling for Lower Corentyne, K Cecil took 4 wickets for 10 runs and A Maniram 2-7.
In Lower Corentyne’s reply, only P. Ganesh managed to reach double figures as he scored 11. All the other batsmen fell below the double figure mark, as they were all bowled out for a paltry 53 runs.
The Competition continues on Saturday November 4 and will see Central/Upper Corentyne taking on West Berbice at Port Mourant Community Center while Lower Corentyne will do battle with the lads of New Amsterdam/ Canje at the Albion Community Center.
Following the conclusion of the tournament, the Berbice Cricket Board will select a 30-man squad that will be further prepared to represent the county in February 2018.
