“Be Courageous” – Jehovah’s Witnesses convention for this weekend
The Jehovah’s Witnesses’ Annual Convention is all set for this weekend at the Leonora Track and Field Stadium on the West Coast of Demerara, and will see thousands of persons gathering for three days of discussions and presentations.
According to Elders Anthony Nobrega and Joshua Dorris, the event kicks off on July 27 under the theme “Be Courageous”, and will conclude on July 29.
The three-day programme consists of 54 presentations that will include talks, audio dramas, interviews, and short videos. A highlight of the convention programme will be the public Bible discourse: “The Resurrection Hope Imparts Courage – How”, scheduled for the morning of July 29; while a feature film titled
“The Story of Jonah—A Lesson in Courage and Mercy”, will be shown in the afternoon.
Each day the programme commences at 09:20h, and admission is free.
Elder Nobrega, during an interview with <<Guyana Times>>, said the convention is an annual event held across the world with the same theme. He noted that the theme “Be courageous” is an appropriate one, and comes at a time when Guyana needs the courage to fight the societal ills.
“It’s a very appropriate theme, because we live in a world where there are so many distressing problems; problems of all sorts that people are encountering and have to cope with. So the convention programme is designed to help those attending to develop this godly quality of courage, so that they can cope with the many distressing situations and problems of today’s world. It will also give them a hope for the future,” he said. Dorris said they would have interpreters speaking Chinese, Portuguese and Spanish, along with sign language for those with hearing disabilities.
He stressed that the two highlights of the convention would occur on Sunday in the form of the public talk and feature film. He noted that there would be time for persons to network and seek clarity on the issues bothering them. Additionally, he said, the convention would seek to engage youths through the use of various technological platforms.
