B&E suspect released on $120,000 bail

A Bartica, Region Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni) man was on Tuesday release on bail by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan when he appeared before her to answer to a charge of larceny.

The charge read that Dwayne Yai Yai, 42, on January 24, at Tambakay Landing, Mazaruni River, broke and entered into the business premises of Andrew Pereira and carted off a quantity of Digicel phone cards valued 4,000 and three cellphones valued ,000; a total value of 2,000.

Yai Yai denied the charge and his lawyer requested bail on the grounds that his client has no previous brushes with the law and is not a flight risk. The lawyer also told the court that his client has a medical condition for which he requires urgent surgery.

The Chief Magistrate granted bail at the sum of 0,000. The case will continue on February 16 at the Bartica Magistrate’s Court.
