Beacon, Riddim Squad storm into GFA Knockout final with commanding wins

Beacon Football Club (FC) and Riddim Squad FC advanced to the final of the Georgetown Football Association (GFA) Knockout competition following commanding semi-final victories on Thursday night at the Plaisance Community Ground, East Coast Demerara.
Playing before a crowd of more than 50 spectators, according to the GFA’s official gate count, both semi-final encounters proved to be one-sided affairs.
Beacon FC produced the most dominant performance of the night, thrashing Eastveldt FC 6-1 after racing to a 5-0 advantage at halftime. Antwoine Vincent opened the scoring in the 15th minute before Stayon Murray added a quick double in the 20th and 22nd minutes.

Tamiel Hutson then struck twice in succession in the 25th and 29th minutes to put Beacon firmly in control heading into the break.
Eastveldt managed to pull one back in the 49th minute through an own goal by Beacon goalkeeper Simon Emmanuel, but Tefon Daly completed the rout with Beacon’s sixth goal in the 75th minute.
In the second semi-final, Riddim Squad FC secured a comfortable 3-0 victory over Vengy FC after taking full control in the opening half.

Dorville Stewart broke the deadlock in the 26th minute before Kelvin Gordon doubled the lead in the 42nd minute. Steffon Daniels added a third one minute later to effectively seal the contest before halftime.
The Nalico/Nafico-sponsored tournament, which is also supported by the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport, among others, is scheduled to conclude tonight, Saturday, May 9, with the final slated for 21:00h at the same venue. The third-place decider will be contested between Eastveldt and Vengy earlier in the night at 19:00h. (Michelangelo Jacobus)
