Beacons, Potaro Strikers to represent Bartica at GFF’s year end futsal tournament

Three nights of thrilling action in the BFA Futsal Super-16 Knockout concluded with two of Bartica’s top teams earning the right to represent the town at the GFF Year End Futsal Championship, in Georgetown, this month.

What started out with sixteen teams, came down to a final four on Wednesday night with Beacons, Almanack Kings, Potaro Strikers and Jones Avenue in the semi-finals. But only two could have advanced to the final. Potaro Strikers defeated Almanack Kings, 5 goals to 3 in a thriller; while Beacons overcame Jones Avenue 2 – 1. Jones Avenue bounced back with a consolation third place win over Almanack Kings and Beacons proved they are Bartica’s too futsal team with a 3 – 1 victory over Potaro Strikers. At the end of the night, both finalists were winners, having secured the right to enter the GFF’s national yearend tournament.

In an interview with this publication President of the Bartica Football Association Alden Marslowe, when asked his opinion on both representing BFA in the year end tournament, said, “Beacon and Potaro Strikers are two of our top clubs at the moment, so it is great to see that they can perform in any form of the sport. I am confident that they will represent us well at the year-end tournament and we are fully behind them. In terms of their chances our boys are as talented as any in the country; so, we don’t feel like they are at a disadvantage competing in a national tournament.”

The BFA boss was also adamant of the fact that futsal is always a crowd-pleaser at Bartica. He noted that the talent of the players on the smaller pitch, the flair and energy along with the accompanying spectator atmosphere makes for a really unique and special product. Marslowe further reiterated that the two teams will be representing the local association as well as the general community. Hence, it is their responsibility to assist them with administration, training and finances as they are looking forward to getting the best out of them; therefore, the BFA is giving the players the best.
