Beacons, GFC, Riddim Squad and GT Panthers record victories

GFF/KFC U20 Independence KO Cup – Georgetown

Four clubs have already staked a claim for the top spot in the Georgetown leg of the Guyana Football Federation/Kentucky Fried Chicken (GFF/KFC) Under-20 Independence Cup Knockout Tournament by recording wins in the respective matches they played on Saturday last. They are: Beacons FC, Georgetown Football Club, GT Panthers, and Riddim Squad FC of Mocha.

Action in the Beacons FC versus Eastveldt FC match at the GFF National Training Centre at Providence

Playing at the GFF’s National Training Centre at Providence, East Bank Demerara, Beacons were held to a 2-all draw by Eastveldt FC, who fought back from a 2-nil deficit but were later determined to have fielded an ineligible player, which resulted in them having to forfeit the match.
Representing Beacons FC, Shaquan Stephens scored in the 6th minute and Darien Dickson in the 19th. Responding for Eastveldt FC, Antwone Vasconcellos scored in the 32nd and 43rd minutes; but it was all in vain.
Georgetown Football Club (GFC) displayed ominous form when they trounced Pele FC 10-2 in the second match played. Leading ‘the Bourda Blues’, Kelsey Benjamin’s helmet trick was recorded when he scored goals in the 16th, 21st, 33rd, and 49th minutes; while Dwayne Rebeiro’s double was scored in the 10th and 28th minutes.
Then one goal each was scored by Michael Richmond (40th – Own Goal Pele), Adrian Aaron (42nd), Rondel Petters (46th) and Reuben Miller (69th). Dorwin George (61st) and Zian Gray (70th) scored for Pele FC.
Riddim Squad edged Camptown FC 2-1, with the winners getting their goals from Oneal McKinnon (24th) and Deshaun Ellis (86th). Camptown FC got their consolation goal from Shane Jones (50th).
GT Panthers FC were in dismissive mode when they mauled a hapless Black Pearl FC 15- 1. Hat-tricks were recorded by Joshua Anthony (5’, 37’, 43’) and Vasco Cabral (24’, 65’, 72’); besides a double from Whitaker Paul (28’, 33’) and one each from Uriah King (40’), Nadir Walker (51’), Antonia Xavier (67’), Leonardo Thomas (70’) and Malcolm Terrence.
Black Pearl FC’s consolation goal was netted by Ishmael Allicock in the 9th minute.
Action will continue on Saturday at the same venue from 11:00hrs, when Fruta Conquerors play Riddim Squad before Santos take on Beacons. The semi-finals would be contested on Sunday with GT Panthers taking on the winner of the Fruta Conquerors vs Riddim Squad clash, while the second semi will bring together GFC and the winner of the Santos versus Beacons showdown.
