Barbados Pride inflicted a 236-run win against Guyana Jaguars in three days of their eight-round clash of the West Indies Regional 4-Day championships. Watched by less than 40 supporters who made their exit as Guyana were bowled out for 94 in 24 overs, chasing 330 to win, Kemar Roach replicated his brilliance with the ball, ending with four wickets in the second innings while Jonathan Carter took three wickets to silence the roaring five-time defending champions.
Carter castled Sinclair for a duck
Jaguars began the day in cautious fashion for a matter of three overs; Shimron Hetmyer (06) played an attractive straight drive to the long-off boundary but young Chemar Holder, hitting the right areas found Hetmyer’s edge at 6-1. That was the opening of the floodgates; Leon Johnson was taken at second slip by a safe Ashley Nurse for three at 19-2 by the same Chemar Holder.
The struggling Tagenarine Chanderpaul was then trapped in front by Roach for 11 at 23-3 as Jaguars continued to crumble. Roach, hitting one area with ease and grace, found himself on a hat trick when he accounted for Vishaul Singh (03), who was caught at the wicket and Raymon Reifer (00) trapped in front.
Keemo Paul swinging for the hills
Jaguars had fallen at 26-5 in a matter of 10.4 overs of testing seam bowling with the pink ball.
Christopher Barnwell, who was unlucky to be adjudged leg-before fell at 33-6 to Roach for six. Keemo Paul and Anthony Bramble fight fire with fire; Paul was fearless, walking into Roach, and hitting him to all parts of the Stadium. The duo added 51 runs together as they displayed the “die-trying” attitude. At 84-7, Bramble was caught at second slip by Nurse for an attacking 22 from 36 balls, which included four boundaries.
Pride players celebrate the prize wicket of Shimron Hetmyer
Paul, who was innovative in his stroke-play, scooped one to fine-leg for four but the next ball, a probing Carter castled his middle stumps. The right-handed Paul, who departed with Jaguars reeling at 93-8, made 36 from 22 balls which included six fours and one six. A clueless Kevin Sinclair who left the crease in an attempt to cover the ball was beaten all ends up by Carter who sent Sinclair’s middle stump out of the ground at 93-9.
Kemar Roach ended with 9-90 in the match
The final wicket did not take long to come as Permaul was drowned in the Jason Holder honey, top-edging one and was caught by the wicket-keeper. That was the moment the Pride silenced the Jaguars in their own backyard; the Pride players were screaming in joy, a win that meant the world to them.
Roach ended with 4-40 in nine overs while Carter claimed 3-13 in three overs. Chemar Holder had 2-29 in a dominant display of seam bowling, where Pride did not bowl a ball of spin in the entire match. Roach ended with match figures of 9-90 in 22.1 overs.
