The Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts was in an uproar on Tuesday morning after a swarm of bees swooped in, attacking a number of Police Officers and members of the public.
The insects which appeared to be housed in a tree behind Court One and Two – which face Brickdam – were reportedly disturbed by maintenance workers close by.
Following the bee attack, all courtrooms were closed and sessions suspended.
A man who appeared to be a vagrant walked into the area where the bees were swarming and was attacked by the insects, which covered him causing him to fall to the ground. Found motionless, the injured man was later picked up by Police Officers and taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation. Other persons managed to escape the wrath of the bees, with just a few stings.
Members of the public who were inside Court Two at the time of the bee attack had to be evacuated through the prisoner’s shoot so as to avoid being stung by the bees.
Normalcy was returned to the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts by lunch time.
