Beharry T20… Bridgemohan, Dowlin confident of teams’ success

Shivesh Bridgemohan and Justin Dowlin were all-round standouts in the first round of the Beharry Group National Under-19 T20 Cricket tournament play-offs. Now with a win under their belts, both youngsters are confident their teams can go all the way.
The scripts were almost the same for Abram Zuil and Essequibo Islands Secondary on Sunday last: both restricting their opponents and going on to chase manageable totals within eight overs.
Abram Zuil Secondary battled Covent Garden Secondary in the first match, restricting the East Bank/Upper Demerara zone champions to 64-8.
A chief player in their undoing was Bridgemohan claiming 3-7 for Abram Zuil. Speaking to Guyana Times Sport, the youngster admitted that he needed to get a feel of conditions before wreaking havoc on his opponents.
Bridgemohan admitted, “The first two overs I slack up a little. The second over, I found my length and just got my wickets.”

“It was easy, the pitch was playing good. Yeah, the pitch was playing nice.”
The opening win has given Bridgemohan and co confidence that they can take home the inaugural title.
“I feel confident going into the other games ‘cause since we start playing this tournament, we’re winning all the games,” Bridgemohan shared.
The Abram Zuil bowler added, “I think we gon win this tournament, 100 per cent. We got to work on our fielding, batting, and bowling a little more.”
On the other hand, Dowlin produced the goods with both bat and ball to ensure Essequibo Islands’ eight-wicket victory over Queen’s College.
Dowlin claimed 2-10 in 3 overs and later smashed an unbeaten 41 off 21 balls to steer his side home in eight overs, chasing 71.
The national player expressed his satisfaction with conditions and the way his team played.
“The conditions were good, the pitch was playing well, the ball was coming on,” Dowlin told this publication.
The all-rounder went on to share, “Well, the team played their role today and we restrict the team to a small total. So, it gave us a small total and it was easy to make.”
When quizzed about the feeling in the Essequibo Islands camp after their first win, Dowlin described it as “great”.
The Beharry U19 tournament was scheduled to continue at venues across the coast today.
