Belle Vue thump Christ Ambassadors in one-sided affair

The action commenced on Sunday as Belle Vue played their first match of the new year and came out victorious against Christ Ambassadors Cricket Team.

The victorious Belle Vue side

At the Belle Vue Ground, the popular prediction was that the team batting second would definitely go on to win, but Belle Vue won the toss and elected to bat first in slightly breezy conditions. They were able to post a respectable total of 138-7 in their allotted overs. The Belle Vue batsmen took to the crease and blasted the ball to every part of the ground. Despite losing wickets in quick succession, they continued to press on. Belle Vue batters once again proved why they were among some of the best teams on the West Coast of Demerara, as they dusted off the rust. Top scoring for Belle Vue were Shane Persaud (39) and Krishna Singh (33 not out); these two batsmen were instrumental providing assistance at the top and ending of the innings. Bowling for Christ Ambassadors was M Watlin with four wickets; no other bowler could make an impact.
Needing 139 for victory off 120 balls, the Christ Ambassadors side had their work cut out for them from ball one. If they were to execute such a run chase and upset the home team, they needed to focus and dig deep and produce big scores. However, things did not go as planned as they were skittled out for 72. D Andrews’s 34 was not enough to stop Belle Vue from walking away with a confident win, as no other member of the squad could reach double figures. Bowling for Belle Vue were Safraz Baksh (4-12 from 3.2 overs) and Shane Persaud 3-16 in his allotted four overs.
