Belts on the line as CBO stages 2nd Pro Card

…”Doggie” calls out “Magnum”

The Cliff Anderson Sports Hall will be blessed by professional boxing action next month as the Caribbean Boxing Organisation (CBO) stages its second event this year. While boxers from across the Region will get some much-needed time in the ring, ‘celebrities’ will also have a chance to throw some punches.
The CBO’s card is set to take centre stage on Saturday, September 12 with seven professional bouts already confirmed for the star-studded card.
Pugilists from Guyana, Suriname, Trinidad and Tobago, Grenada, Barbados, Jamaica and Venezuela are lined up to compete.
During a press briefing on Saturday at Tower Suites in Georgetown, CBO President Seon Bristol divulged that new belts would be on the line.
“Most importantly, you’ll see in front of us, there’re two belts. As a promotional body, when putting heads together, we say the outcome should be superior. We’ve been able to have fighters amongst to fight for what would be considered a promotional belt – the CBO belt,” Bristol announced.

The CBO President went on to add, “In addition to that, due to the excitement that – I believe Mr Abdool himself could even mention some of the interest that was shown and from that, here we have growing the Caribbean Celebrity belt. Something just to feed off of and we trust that it will be sports, fun and laughter,”
Guyana Boxing Board of Control (GBBC) President Peter Abdool detailed how such events can help develop pugilists within the Region, hailing the CBO’s efforts.
“I cannot tell you how pleased we are by the CBO’s activities. They’re precisely what we’re looking for,” Abdool expressed.
“When you look at him, you see this tremendous fighter coming into the ring and he defeats somebody, everybody is happy about it, they don’t appreciate the amount of work and involvement that goes into building that fighter. It’s not just the fighter, it’s the people that put on the fights that are so important.
“Essentially what happens, you need a process by which you are able to fight the fighters in your country and your region, where they’re able to develop and build their records to the point where they become regional champions and then from there become world champions. They have, at least, a shot. This is an imperative role and it is extraordinary that the CBO, under the guidance of Mr Bristol, is taking up that mantle,” the GBBC President further expounded.
On the ‘celebrity’ side of things, having missed out on similar bouts earlier this year, Bradley “Doggie” Sampson’s Manager Charwin Estwick called out a new opponent.
Estwick declared on behalf of “Doggie”, “We would like to call out “Magnum” [Dorrel Romeo], we want to find out where his balls is really at. He been doing a lot of stuff, throwing tyres over the bridge and all of that. So, “Magnum”, where are you? “Doggie” is trying to find out where is “Magnum”? He has another opportunity to see what he has in the ring. Let’s make it happen for the celebrity fight.”
The confirmed bouts will see Kevin Isaacs taking on Trinidad and Tobago’s Shakir Garcia, Joel Williamson battles Richard Howard, Jamal Eastman goes toe-to-toe with Septon Barton, Suriname’s Mitchell Wilson dukes it out with Rickenson Henry of Grenada, James Moore clashes with Joel McRae of Trinidad and Tobago, Laured Stewart takes on Venezuela’s Williams Okando and Barbados’s Tyrese Tate trades punches with Chivaro Blackson.
CB1 Construction, Tower Hotel, Superbet Guyana, Nickie’s Fish Shop and Canjie Restaurant of Texas, USA are amongst the card’s sponsors thus far.
