The accused in the Belvedere, Berbice, murder was on Monday remanded to prison when he appeared in a New Amsterdam court to answer the charge.
Jainarine Balgobin called “Boyo”, 39, of Belvedere Squatting Area, is accused of the murder of Bhumattie Deolall, 53, of 351 5th Street, South Belvedere, on November 2.
Balgobin was not required to plead to the indictable charge.
Police Prosecutor Inspector Godfrey Platter told the court that a file has been prepared and sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), who has advised that additional information be added to the file.
Magistrate Moore transferred the matter to the Albion Magistrate’s Court, and set December 12 as the next court date.
It was reported that last Wednesday Balgobin went into the victim’s yard armed with a cutlass and dealt her several chops to her neck, almost severing it.
He then calmly walked out of the yard, crossed the street and replaced the cutlass at the altar of the Maha Kali Hindu Temple.
The cane harvester, who also does odd jobs, is said to have been of unsound mind when investigators interviewed him.
During the time he was in police custody, the accused was often overheard speaking to himself.
It had been reported that Balgobin had a history of physically abusing his mother and most times, the deceased would go over to make peace.
Deolall was divorced, unemployed and took care of her daughter, Purnime Nandram, 26, and her two children.
She leaves to mourn two children and two grandchildren, including a 2-year-old, who witnessed the chopping.
