Ben Parag to perform at Dharmic Sabha’s Arrival Day Celebrations
The Guyana Hindu Dharmic Sabha will be holding countrywide activities to commemorate the 179th anniversary of Indian Arrival in Guyana.
On Saturday, May 6, the Sabha will be hosting a special concert at the Dharmic Kendra in Prashad Nagar, Greater Georgetown, featuring Ben Parag, Vishalie Sukram and the Dharmic Nirtya Sangh.
Nineteen-year-old Ben Parag has been in the limelight recently for having made it to the top six in Star Plus Television’s Music and Singing Competition “Dil Hai Hindustani” in India.
Parag is the first person of Guyanese origin to have enjoyed such success in any singing and television show in India.
The show was judged by top personalities of the Bollywood Indian music and film industry and featured many popular guests including Shah Rukh Khan, Vidya Balan and Akshay Kumar.
The talented teenager was born in New York but his parents are from Black Bush Polder, Corentyne, Berbice.
Also performing on May 6 are Emerging Voices Season One winner Vishalie Sukram and the Sabha’s dance troupe, Dharmic Nritya Sangh, popular for their spectacular performances at Naya Zamana. Tickets for the event cost $3000 and will include dinner. These are on sale at the Dharmic Kendra and Red Mango or can be obtained by calling 227-6181 or 219-1900. All proceeds go towards the Sabha’s Dharmic Rama Krishna School Expansion project.
The Sabha will also be holding Indian Arrival Anniversary celebrations featuring marches, exhibitions and rich cultural programmes across the country.
On Monday, May 1, West Coast Berbice will hold their event at the Bath Community Centre Ground beginning at 16:00h. On Friday, May 5, programmes will be held by the East Coast Demerara Praant at the Helena No 2 Cricket Ground in Mahaica at 13:00h and by the West Demerara Praant at the Oceanview Mandir Compound at 18:00h.
On Sunday, May 7, the Essequibo Praant’s event will be held at Anna Regina Community Centre Ground at 13:00h while Central Corentyne Praant’s programme will be held at Tain Campus at 16:00h.
The final event will be held on May 7 at Crabwood Creek Road End and will feature both Praga and Sukram.
Admission to all of the events is free and they will be alcohol free.
