Berbice businessman attacked, robbed by armed bandits

A 60-year-old businessman of Belvedere Village, Corentyne, Berbice was on Thursday evening attacked at his home and robbed by two armed bandits.
The businessman’s losses include an undisclosed amount of cash, two Samsung Galaxy tablets, one Bluetooth Automatic box, a quantity of Digicel and GTT phone cards, and several personal documents.
Based on information received, the man had just finished doing his daily business, and was heading home in his vehicle. At around 19:18h, he pulled up on his bridge, and as he exited the vehicle to open the gate, he was confronted by two gunmen demanding his valuables.
The businessman hesitated to hand over his valuables to the bandits, causing them to beat him about his body with their guns. One of the bandits then held on to their victim while the other went into the van and removed a bag which contained the businessman’s valuables. The perpetrators then escaped on two bicycles.
The victim was later escorted to the Port Mourant Public Hospital, where he was seen and examined by a doctor on duty, who treated and sent him away. Investigations are ongoing.
