The lifeless body of Lomenzo Johnny, a businessman of Lot 11 Portuguese Quarters, Corentyne was found on Thursday morning, a short distance from his home.
Johnny, called “Sham”, was discovered with his feet bound. The 49-year-old’s body was stumbled upon by construction workers sometime around 07:45h in a yard that is about 400 meters from his home.
According to information, the dead man, who lived alone, operated a grocery store at his home and is believed to have been murdered on Wednesday evening.
He was last seen on Wednesday evening at about 19:30h jogging but never made it home. On Thursday morning, two friends were looking for him to go jogging but he never showed up. Calls to his cellular phone went unanswered.
When the body was discovered, his feet were bound together with lace. The sweater he was seen wearing on Wednesday evening was found a few feet away from the body.
A pair of scissors and a piece of wood were also near to the body.
Initial investigations revealed that there was a wound to his back, bruises to his hand and his head and face appeared to be swollen. Blood was oozing from his nose when the body was discovered.
Reports are that Johnny would normally take his cellular phone and house keys with him when he goes jogging. When the body was found, none of those items was located.
When Johnny’s workers arrived on Thursday, they found that the gate was opened and the windows were closed. According to one of the workers, he would normally open up the house and be downstairs by the time they arrive.
After waiting some time for him, they decided to call his phone but got no response. It was shortly after that the discovery was made further down the street.
When Police went to the house, they found that the front door was opened and the house was ransacked.
According to the dead man’s sister, it was only the kitchen which was not ransacked. However, in the kitchen, all of the drawers were left open.
Reports are that a safe was removed from the building. His sister said that it was heavy and would take more than one person the carry it. Marks inside the house and on the stairway suggest that it was dragged.
According to the Police, a .25 pistol and 28 matching live rounds of ammunition were found in the bedroom.
Police are investigating and up to press time, no arrests were made.
