Due to persistent rainfall in Berbice over the last few weeks, the organizers of the annual Guyana Independence T20 Cup are forced to postpone the event which was slated to be played at the Rose Hall Community Center Ground on Sunday May 29, 2016. This cricket extravaganza is a fundraiser jointly organised by the Berbice Cricket Board and the Berbice Chambers of Commerce and Development Association and will now be played at a new date and venue to be announced. This family event forms part of the calendar of events of the region to celebrate our Country’s 50th Independence Anniversary.
Funds raised from this event will be donated to the Bal Nivas of Babu John, Port Mourant, orphanages and schools with the remainder to be shared by the two organisations. It will be an action pack 5 overs a side, white balls, colour clothing and will involve the top first division teams in Berbice. The teams expected to take part for prizes of over 0,000.00 are Upper Corentyne, Port Mourant, Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club, Albion Community Center, Young Warriors Cricket Club, Tucber Park, Blairmont, Police and West Berbice.
The winning team is expected to pocket 0,000, the runner up ,000 while the man of the match will collect ,000. Trophies will also be up for grabs.
The organizers would like to thank our sponsors for their support over the years and advised that the letters seeking sponsorship for the 2016 tournament is still valid.
A number of other side attractions are expected to form a part of the programme.
